Douglas “Doug” G. Young, 57, of McCallsburg, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa surrounded by his children Bonnie and Colin, sister Teresa and her son Tylor, and his mother. Per his wishes he has been cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Doug was born on April 12, 1958 in Iowa City to Mary Young. He attended Nevada High School and following school joined the Army. Once he was discharged from the Army he married Teresa Leanne Whitmore. The couple raised their family in the Zearing and McCallburg area. Doug worked for ISU and Zearing Healthcare Center as a custodian until his health would no longer allow him to. He was a member of the Nevada Eagles (when it was open), and the American Diabetes Association. He enjoyed fishing, classic rock, woodworking, and messing around with electrical projects.

Those left to cherish Doug’s loving memories are his children Bonnie Young, and Colin Young; mother Mary Young; sister Teresa (Craig) Wallingford; and brother Terry (Pedro) Young; nephews Tylor (Natasha) Young, and Travis Stevens, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is joined in death by his wife of 20 years Teresa.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing has been entrusted with Doug’s cremation care.
