Obituary for Mary Ann Catherine Quint

Mary Ann Quint was born February 19, 1926 to Hugh and Maree (Miller) Connolly in Winthrop, Iowa. After graduating from Winthrop High School in 1943, Mary Ann attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught for two years in an Amish community near Independence and another 48 years at East Buchanan Community Schools. Teaching was her passion.

In 1948, Mary Ann married Paul T. Quint and to this union were born three children: Mona, David and Angela. Mary Ann was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Delta Kappa Gamma and St. Cecilia Catholic Church. After retiring from teaching, Mary Ann moved to Ames to be closer to family. She resided at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living from 2009 until early October.

Mary Ann passed from this life at 89 years of age on November 12, 2015 at Bethany Manor in Story City where she was being cared for following a fall and stroke in early October.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, David (Kathy) Quint of London, England; her daughter, Angela (Jim) Nespor of Ames, and her son-in-law, Terry Ball of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Parsons of London, Angela (Pete) Robertson of London, David (Emma) Quint of Dallas, Texas, Geoffrey (Laura) Quint of Washington, D.C., Quinton Nespor of Ames and Monique Nespor of Ames; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Della (Babe) Ramsey of Cedar Rapids; and her brother, Jim Connolly of Chicago .

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her daughter, Mona Ball; and two brothers, John Connolly and Ray Connolly.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her sharp mind, sense of humor and witty remarks. She loved helping children learn and was always a “teacher”.

A celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held at a later date, possibly in the spring--her favorite time of year.
