Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Daniel M. Stoltze D.D.S.
September 29, 1951 - November 10, 2015

Daniel M. Stoltze DDS, passed peacefully from this life into God’s hands on November 10, 2015, with family by his side. Daniel was the second of seven children born to Robert and Elaine (Neddermeyer) Stoltze of Charter Oak, Iowa.

He farmed with his father until he graduated from high school in 1969. He attended college at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion where he worked 40 hours a week while getting a B.S. in Biology. He attended Dental School at the University of Iowa. He was a member of Psi Omega dental fraternity. He served on the Admissions Committee at Dental School, an educational adventure.

Daniel married Lois Brown in June, 1974 in Iowa City, Iowa. It was love at first sight and love to the last; a marriage built on faith, respect and laughter. Daniel and Lois had three children together; Anne, Sonya and Daniel, all of whom cherished their wonderful and devoted father.

Upon completion of Dental School in 1977, Daniel practiced dentistry in Hubbard, Iowa. Following the birth of their children, he moved his practice to Ames. He loved practicing dentistry, most recently with his daughter Sonya at Stoltze and Stoltze Family Dentistry on Duff Avenue in Ames.

He was known for his caring concern and great sense of humor at work and in life. He had an innovative and up to date dental practice and worked with a skillful and kind staff. Dr. Dan’s office is decorated with fish and ducks to the point that a visiting eight year old at the office looked around and said seriously, “Someone in this office is obsessed with ducks.”

Daniel was very active in family life. He coached softball, soccer, directed and produced school plays at Gilbert while his children were there. He could build anything needed for sets on stage. He was a Cub and Boy Scout leader. He earned the Wood Badge for Scout leaders. He taught Sunday school with Lois.

He volunteered in Operation Blessing Dental Clinic in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and was approved to do an outreach dental clinic in Kodiak, Alaska.

He enjoyed Men’s Bible Study Group in church and sang in choir at church.

Daniel loved learning new things. He took cooking and judging classes to better contribute to son-in-law Ryan Newstrom’s competitive BBQ team, Big T’z Q Cru.
He loved fishing and did so in Branson, Missouri, Northeast Iowa, Minnesota and Alaska with family and friends. Hunting and gardening were also passions of Daniel’s. Even when feeling unwell in July, he was packing fruit jars with green beans for dilled green beans.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, brother William (Billy) and son-in-law John Raymond.

Survivors include his wife Lois, his children, daughter Anne Stoltze of Westchester, NY, daughter Sonya Stoltze Newstrom and son-in-law Ryan Newstrom of Ames, son Daniel Stoltze and daughter-in-law Becky Stoltze of Des Moines, IA, grandson Jameson Newstrom and granddaughter Amelie Newstrom of Ames. Survivors also include his parents, Robert and Elaine Stoltze of Charter Oak, brother Robert and sister-in-law Annette Stoltze of Charter Oak and their children and grandchildren, brother Bruce and sister-in-law Celeste of Des Moines and their children and grandchildren, sister Susan and brother-in-law Randy Kult of Ankeny, IA and their daughter, brother Keith Stoltze of Charter Oak, and sister Nancy and brother-in-law Terry Leadbeter of Huntley, IL and their children and grandchild.

The Family would like to express thanks for the compassionate care received at the Bliss Cancer Center, Mary Greeley Medical Center oncology and medical floors, Green Hills skilled care. The doctors and nurses were outstanding. Many thanks as well to family, friends and patients who sent so many encouraging letters, notes and calls during his illness.

Now Daniel is in God’s care and though he will be missed by all who knew him, the memory of his steadfast strength of character, generosity and big happy laugh will live on in all our hearts.
