Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Florence LaVonne Mason was born July 15, 1923 to Jess H. and Erah Eaton in Des Moines, Iowa. Florence and Harold "Bud" Mason were married on February 17, 1945 at the Brethren Parsonage in Elkhart, Iowa, with their parents attending along with John and Betty Easter, their lifelong friends. Florence and Bud moved to their farm in Lafayette Township, southwest of Story City in the spring of 1949. Also in 1949, Florence and Bud joined the Evangelical United Brethren Church, now known as Grace United Methodist. Florence was an active worker at her church, supporting all the ladies groups, helping with the Kentucky Supper and Scandinavian Days to name a few. Florence was an avid quilter and quilted for the benefit of her church for many years. She made sure to complete a beautiful quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.

Florence was the epitome of a young farm wife. Florence helped Bud every way she could, and kept meticulous books of their crops and large cattle operation. She and Bud enjoyed gardening - with Florence canning and freezing all of the food that was needed for their family. Her homemade bread was her pride and joy, along with wonderful pies, cakes and cinnamon rolls.

Florence Mason passed away on October 20, 2015 at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville, Virginia, after a short illness.

Florence is survived by her five children, Richard (Dolly) Mason of Front Royal, VA, Joyce (Terry) Bartell of Aurora, CO, Roger (Kathy) Mason of Ellsworth, Raymond Mason of Story City and Janet Larson of Story City; 12 grandchildren, Scott Mason, Alysia (Matthew) Feuer, Ryan (Megan) Mason, EJ (Leslie) Mason, Jennifer (Jason) Struchen, Douglas Blease, Lindsay (Kaler) Hendrix, Travis (Charlene) Bartell, Tamara (Sean) McCann, Riley (fiancé, Ashlyn Kepley) Larson, Kyla Larson and Annie Larson; and 14 great-grandchildren, of whom she was very proud.

Florence was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bud Mason; and four brothers, Robert Eaton, James Eaton, Glen Eaton and Jack Eaton.

Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church in support of its programs.
