Norma Marion Buss, 91, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Israel Family Hospice House.

Norma was born in Keya Paha County, Nebraska on March 27, 1924 to Maude (Steckman) and John F Heermann. She grew up on the plains of northern Nebraska and southern South Dakota during the depression and drought years of the 1930's. She graduated from Burke High School in 1941 and attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska where she met and then married Wilbur Buss on December 1, 1942. Norma lived in Ames since 1968.

Norma's life was dedicated to her family and church. She worked in the drapery department for 20 years at Home Furniture and Appliance of Ames, being an accomplished seamstress from her early childhood and teenage years. Her hobbies included oil painting, making greeting cards and many quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She crocheted angels, and collected cow creamers. Norma enjoyed cards and board games with her family, learned to use the computer and played bridge later in life. She was a volunteer at Mary Greeley Hospital Gift Shop, Reiman Gardens Butterfly House, was involved in the International Student Ministry, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur (2000) and brothers, Wilmer Heermann, and Orlin Heermann and her daughter, Danielle Owen.
She is survived by her three sons, Tim, Augusta, Georgia; Paul (Karen), La Jolla, California; Jon (Connie), Ames; and son-in-law Henry Owen (Evanston, IL). In addition, she is survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, and her sisters Floy Timmerman of Brighton, Colorado and Mohna Huffman of Colorado Springs, Colorado and her sister-in-law Emma Heermann of Modesto Calif.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to Israel Hospice House, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
