John Charles, the son of Carl H. Junck and Ella Marie (Blyth) Junck, was born February 1, 1939 in Ogden, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden, Iowa. He graduated from Ogden High School in the class of 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Florida and Japan before receiving an honorable discharge in December, 1963. He started farming with his father and brothers in Ogden. He married Karen Orpha Ruth on June 9, 1963 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Iowa. The couple established their home on several farms south of Ogden where they lived and farmed for many years. They were blessed with three sons, Kevin, Alan, and Darin. John was a longtime faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Following an accident in 2010 that left him with very limited mobility, he resided at the Madrid Home. He was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting with family and friends over a good cup of coffee and chocolate treats. He enjoyed watching sporting events, and was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Some of his fondest memories were from the many family vacations to northern Minnesota for fishing trips. While able, he and Karen also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends in California, Montana, Germany, and Spain.

John is survived by his children, Kevin (Lori) Junck of Birmingham, Alabama, Alan (Vonda) Junck of Ames, Iowa, and Darin (Silvia Rodriguez Sabater) Junck of Charleston, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Anna and Emma Junck of Birmingham and Taylor, Rachel, and Scott Junck of Ames; one sister, Kay Fowler of Ames, Iowa, and three brothers, Rodger (Margaret) Junck of Ames, Michael Junck of Georgetown, Delaware, and Paul (Eleanor) Junck of Bloomington, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his wife Karen Junck, parents, father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Lorraine Ruth, and brother, Curtis Junck.
