Robert "Bob" Ross, 72, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2015, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Robert Orien Ross was born January 15, 1943, in Tama, Iowa to Lewis and Catherine (Carpenter) Ross. He grew up in Tama graduating in the class of 1961. Bob continued his education in Minneapolis before enlisting in the United States Army. While proudly serving his country, Bob was stationed in San Antonio, Germany, and Colorado Springs. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Bob took a position at Iowa Methodist Hospital where he met Lynne Renee Custer.

On May 7, 1972, Bob was united in marriage to Lynne Renee in Harlan, Iowa. The couple made their home in Ames and were blessed with three children, Dayna, Erin, and Ryan. Bob continued his career with Iowa State University in the veterinary research department.

Bob enjoyed ancestry and genealogy research, collecting coins, and travel photography. He also traveled out west with his family and remembered Yellowstone National Park as his favorite childhood vacation. Most of all Bob loved spending time with Lynne, his children, and grandchildren who all held a special place in his heart.

Survivors include his children, Dayna R. (John) Sprecher of Ames, Erin B. (Eric) Ross-Johnson of Johnston, and Ryan R. Ross of Ames; grandchildren, Sheridan Johnson, Zander Johnson, and Neve Sprecher; sister, Barbara Ann (William) Baughman; and ten nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynne Renee Ross; parents; mother and father-in-law, Ival and Marjorie Custer; and brother-in-law, Thomas Custer.
