Charles "Chuck" Egemo was born on May 29, 1938 in Kanawha, Iowa to parents Oscar and Ellen (Anfinson) Egemo. He graduated from Story City, High School in 1956. Enlisting in the US Navy, Chuck served on the Naval ship, Salamonie until 1958. When he came home, he started farming and taking some college courses. Chuck married Virginia Hovick on May 28, 1960. He worked for 35 years at the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames, Iowa. He lived most of his life in the Story City area. He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, where he ushered, involved in Bible studies, quilting and helping the middle school youth of St. Petri. He often stated, “I got more out them, then they get from me.” He held church offices, congregation president and was on many church committees. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Charles “Chuck” L. Egemo of Story City passed away July 23, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center at the age of 77 years.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia of Story City; two daughters, Janelle Gustafson of Ankeny, IA and Cindy (Galen) Stole of Roland, IA; one son, Tim (Diane) Egemo of Manchester, IA; eight grandchildren, Laura, Abby, Tyler (Sara), Nick, Jill, Samantha, Jacquelyn, Scott (fiancée Shelby); two great grandchildren, Cora and Charlie; one brother, Robert (Mary) Egemo of Villages, FL and one sister, Marguerite Wagner of Clarion, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Jim Gustafson, brother, Carroll Egemo and three brothers-in-law, Everett Wagner, Rodney Hovick and Bob Kane.
Memorials may be made out to St. Petri Lutheran Church.
