Lois Peterson life’s journey ended Thursday evening July 23, 2015 in the Samson Court wing of Bethany Manor, Story City, Iowa.
Lois Harlene Mosel Peterson was born on a crisp, cold afternoon in Reading Township, Farnhamville, Iowa on December 1, 1932.

Her mother, Louise Naefke Mosel was celebrating her 39th birthday on that day. Lois was the 5th and final daughter born to the union of Louise and Henry Fredrick Mosel. Louise and Lois were born in the same farm house. Surviving Lois are older sisters, Iona Lussman, LaVonne Barkoff, Audrey Ressler, and Doloris Ness.The Mosel family moved to Callender, Iowa in the spring of 1942 where Lois completed her education in the Callender School District.
In school, Lois loved music, plays, the band, and playing basketball. Lois was awarded a scholarship for a three-year nursing training from the Cancer Society of Iowa.
She enrolled in the School of Nursing, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa in August of 1950.
After graduation and earning her R.N., she worked in the operating room at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa as a scrub nurse. She worked there 2 years, paying off the stipulation of the Cancer Society Scholarship.
On August 28, 1955 James Peterson and Lois were united in marriage in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Callender.
To this union was born 3 boys, Joel Lucian, Daniel Lee, and Philip James (all surviving Lois).
Lois and Jim settled in Story City in July of 1960 where they joined St. Petri Lutheran Church.
Lois became the scrub nurse at Story City Memorial Hospital, working there until she was hired as the school nurse for the Story City School District (then the Roland Story School District until retiring in 1995).
Lois enjoyed years of role-playing with the Judge Story Theatrical Troup. She enjoyed quilting, singing in church choir, coffee time, shopping with friends, and quilting with the St. Petri quilters for many years.
In retirement years Lois and Jim enjoyed miles of travel in their RV, traveling to Texas every year from 1995 to 2009 for the winter months. Jim passed away 10/10/2010.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Bethany Life Communities for the loving care Lois received over the past several years.
Lois loved a good story, a good laugh, and hopes she will be remembered with fondness.
