Janet Lee Gudbaur 82, a lifelong resident of Ames, passed away Friday July 23, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday July 29, at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Janet was born May 27, 1933 in Ames, Iowa, and adopted by Harry E. and Florence (Bradford) Shrake. She grew up in Ames graduating from Ames High School in 1951. Janet married James Champlin and together they raised five children they divorced and on August 13, 1981 she married Douglas Gudbaur. She was a member of the Ames American Legion and V. F. W. auxiliary. Janet worked for many years for Blue Cross Blue Shield retiring in 1998.
Janet enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and reading she also enjoyed history, especially Egyptian history. She loved all animals and was very generous, donating too many animal causes.
Janet is survived by two sons; Joel (Rebecca) Champlin of Ames and Bryan (Michelle) Champlin of CA. one daughter, Catherine Gilmore of Ames; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas; one son, Matthew Champlin and one daughter, Sue Marie Champlin.
