From Nevada Evening Journal October 15, 1853

The funeral of Judge Geo. W. Dyer, 84, who passed away at his home in this city Friday evening at 7:50, was held Friday afternoon at the First Methodist church, after which interment was in the Nevada cemetery.

Judge Dyer was a pioneer lawyer of Story county, having practiced here since 1875. He had served a term on the bench in this the Eleventh Judicial district, also as county attorney, and in many other positions of public trust. He had a wide acquaintance over the county and central Iowa and was a man of fine intellect and education who adherred to the best ethics in the practice of his profession, with a keen sense of humor and companionable in every way; he was always leader in the Story county bar circles.

George Whitefield Dyer was born in Jefferson, Schohaire county, New York August 29, 1839 and died at his home in Nevada, October 12, 1823, aged 84 years, 1 month and 23 days.

His father, Calvin Dyer, his mother Betsy Sherwood Dyer and his grand father, Winthrop Dyer were all natives of Connecticut but were early residents of New York state.

Mr. Dyer was the youngest of eight children all of whom have preceded him in death.

He was a charter member of Frontier Camp No. 295 Modern Woodmen of America.

Judge Dyer was twice married, once in New York state in 1865 and later in Nevada in 1886. He is survived by his widow, Martha Kellogg Dyer and four children, Mrs. Grace Dyer-Rapp of Chicago, Ruth Dyer of Nevada, Windthop Kellogg Dyer of Olivia, Minn., and Mrs. Isabel Dyer-Dowell of St. Paul, Minn. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In the passing go Judge Dyer this community has suffered a loss. He was devoted husband and father and a man of strict integrity.
