Obituary for Leonard Otto Peter
Leonard was born on May 15, 1925 in Harrison County, Iowa to George and Helena (Rambeth) Peter. After graduating from high school, Leonard was a World War II Army Veteran and was one of the Battle of the Bulge survivors. He farmed and lived his life in the Story City area. He married Carmen Olson on August 29, 1993. He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and baptized on June 25, 1925 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church and confirmed on April 2, 1939. He was also a member of the Story City American Legion. Making wine, candles, Christmas decorations were some of the hobbies Leonard enjoyed. The farmer in him carried over into his enjoyment of gardening.
Leonard O. Peter, 89, of Story City died September 23, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen of Story City; a son, Brian Jones of Boone and a daughter Bekki Jones Gaston of Bethesda, MD; four brothers: Hubert Peter of Boone, Melvin Peter (Dorothy) of Story City, Richard Peter (Pat Dale) of Ames, James Peter (Carol) of Vemillion, OH; sisters-in-laws: Margaret Peter of Story City and LaVerne Peter of Isanti, MN; six grandchildren: John, Joy, Cody, Ella, Gunnar, and Piper; 14 nephews, 15 nieces, 24 great nephews and 21 great nieces; 14 great great nephews, 15 great great nieces, one great great great nephew and one great great great niece.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Elnora Gibson, Laurin Hovde; three brothers: Norman, Emmet and Curtis Peter.
Memorials may be directed to ELC World Hunger, Alzheimer’s Assn. or Bethany Manor.
