Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Arlotte Theressa (Hill) Tjernagel was born February 6, 1914 to Jacob and Susan (Nerem) Hill in McCallsburg, Iowa. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Arlotte graduated from McCallsburg High School, worked at the Roland canning factory, Donnelley’s and the National Animal Disease Lab. Her strong faith in God carried her through difficult times with a positive attitude. She taught Sunday School many years, traveled to 49 states and Norway, and was a charter member of Kong Sverre Lodge in the Sons of Norway. She was a talented person who made beautiful quilts and afghans, rosemalled wooden plates, chairs, and other objects, made and dressed dolls and enjoyed playing bridge. Her kringla baking ability was well known to many people. Those who came to her 100th birthday party got a kringla with the lunch and a crocheted nylon net scrubby she had made. She was a sports fan and enjoyed following each of her children and grandchildren to their competitive events and was quite a fan of college football and basketball games on TV.

Arlotte passed away at 100 years of age on Saturday, September 20, at Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Susan (David) Amensen, of Story City, her sons, Loren (Sheryl) Tjernagel, of Radcliffe and Wayne (Susi) Tjernagel, of Fairbank; her grandchildren, Paul (Kristen) Amensen, of Liberty, Missouri, Bob (Stacey) Amensen, of Altoona, Laurel (Bill) Bleil, of Rhode Island, Tim (Paula) Tjernagel, of Caceres, Spain, Mark (Jennifer) Tjernagel, of Roland, Amy (Bill) Boevers, of Cedar Falls, Emily (Darin) Graber, of Prairie City and Donald (Megan) Tjernagel, of Waterloo; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Blanche Hill; and many nieces and nephews.

Arlotte was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Stanley, in 1955; her husband, Selmer (Sam), in 1960; and her siblings, Joseph Hill, Morris Hill, Selma Rasmussen, Anna Mae Johnson, Clara Bryant, Jewell Hill, Edythe Frette, Gertie Bacon and Walter Hill.
