Ramona Louise Wardrip
Feb. 18, 1912 to Jan. 3, 2002

Ramona Louise (Hall) Wardrip, 89, of Des Moines, formerly of Nevada, died of renal and heart failure on Thursday, Jan. 3, at Wesley Acres Retirement Home in Des Moines where she had been a resident since 1987.

She was born Feb. 18, 1912, in Falls City, Neb., to Luther and Grace (Miller) Hall. When she was 4, the family moved to Des Moines. She graduated from North High and attended Drake University. She married W. Dale Wardrip on April 21, 1936, in Des Moines. They lived in Des Moines until 1949 when they moved to Nevada. They owned and operated Wardrip Firestone Store until 1965. She also worked part-time at Donnelleys in Nevada until her retirement in 1974.

She was an active member of the Central Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent. She belonged to Evening Circle, served as president of U.P.W., was an ordained elder and was a member of the choir for 38 years. She and Dale also belonged to Mariners. She was a member of the Soroptimist Club, Nevada Womens Club, Hobby and Music Divisions and served as president. She volunteered at the local child care center, Nevada Senior Citizens dinners, Nevada grade school, the blood drives. Her many interests included music, playing the piano, sewing, gardening, reading, traveling and walking.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Walther of Slater; a brother, Ben Hall of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 5, 1973; a son W. David on Jan. 22, 1978; and a son-in-law, John Walther on Dec. 17, 1993; three brothers; and 1 sister.

Memorial services were held Monday, Jan. 7, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with Pastor Hugh Ghormley, Jr., officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
