Grace Solem
Jan. 7, 1896 to Sept. 27, 1993

Grace Elida Solem, 97, of Nevada died of heart failure at Story County Hospital, Nevada.

She was born in Nevada to Martin and Isabelle (Johnson) Ferkin. She married Oswald Roy Solem on Oct. 25, 1919, in Roland. She lived in Nevada for 71 years. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada, and was a charter member of American Legion Auxiliary in Roland.

Survivors include two daughters, Marily McCord of Cathedral City, Calif., and Ruth Ann Switzer of Newton; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1967; one brother, Otis Ferkin; two sisters, Edith Twedt and Josephine Steffen.

The funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada, with Pastor Daniel W. Solomon officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
