O. R. Solem died Wednesday
Oswald R. Solem, 70, Nevada, died about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Story County Hospital, Nevada. He has been ill for the past three months.
Born at Roland, he had been a resident of Nevada for 40 years.
Mr. Solem was a veteran of World War I and serve over seas. He was a member of the Nevada Memorial Lutheran Church, and served on the church council. he was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Nevada Chamber of Commerce. He attended Highland Park College, Des Moines.
Deputy Story County auditor from 1921-1925, he was elected county auditor and served in that capacity from 1925-1930.
He joined the sales staff of Koch Brothers, Des Moines in 1930 and remained in their employ until he retired because of his health.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn McCord, Glendora, Calif. and Mrs. Ruth Ann Switzer, Newton and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Nevada Memorial Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Harry Myklebust officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for cancer research. Gifts may be left at the funeral home.
