Last Rites For Ben H. Deeds on Tuesday Afternoon

Funeral services for the late Ben H.Deeds,who passed away at his home, 1736 Seventh street, Sunday, March 17, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Morfoot Funeral Home with Rev.O.E. Cooley officiating.

Mrs. Norman C. Dobson was at the organ. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "No Night There" were sung by Mrs. Theron Case. The pallbearers were C. E. Muse,Art Huebner, Don Carqueville, Earl Slemons, Ed Mueller and Joe Newcomb.

The following obituary was read by Rev.Cooley:

"Benjamin Harrison Deeds,son of Jacob and Mary Deeds, was born near Milan, Mo., Oct. 29, 1889. Passed away at his home in Nevada on Sunday afternoon, March 17, 1946.

His early life was spent near Pollock,Green City,and Milan, Mo. Some years ago he came to Story county, Iowa, first locating at Colo and later coming to Nevada. For some years he worked for the Newton Lumber Company. The last three years he was employed by the Flint Coat Roofing Company.

In 1915 he was united in marriage to Miss Belva Price of Green City, Mo. To this union three children were born. One, a son, Raymond, died in infancy. Two living children are Mrs. Thelma Fisher and Mrs. Ramah Pratt of Nevada.

Besides his wife and two daughters Mr.Deeds leaves three brothers, five grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Deeds had been in failing health for a number of years but had been able to go about his daily work."

Out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Charley Deeds, Harris, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Deeds and son Laverne, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Deeds and daughter, Donna June, Milan, Mo.; Mrs.Bertha Olmstead and Mr.and Mrs. Walter Olmstead, Pollock, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Price and daughter and son, Dorothy and Carol, Kirksville, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Price and sons, Ronald and Charles, Green City, Mo.; Mr. H. Ray Price, Waverly, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Holt and daughters, Nancy and Barbara, and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Deeds, Grand Junction, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs M. A. Pratt, Green City, Mo.
