SUDDEN DEATH OF S. W. GUTHRIE

WELL KNOWN FARMER VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK WEDNESDAY EVENING

McCallsburg, April 23--S. W. Guthrie, 55, well-known farmer of northeast of McCallsburg, died from a heart attack, while seated in his auto at his home Wednesday evening about 7:30.

Mr. Guthrie was to drive to McCallsburg to attend a school board meeting. He had entered the car and started the motor, but was taken suddenly ill.

When Mrs. Guthrie, who noticed that the car was still standing with the lights on, went out, Mr. Guthrie told her that he was ill but would be alright in a short time.

She called a doctor and returned to her husband's side, but he died before the arrival of the doctor.

Heart trouble was the cause of death.

Mr. Guthrie, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Guthrie, one of the pioneer families of the community, leaves besides his wife, one son and one daughter. The daughter, Daisy is a teacher at Garden City, while the son Allen is employed on a farm near Zearing.

He also leaves two brothers and three sisters. The brothers are H. A. Guthrie of Charles City and Rev. G. H. Guthrie of Maxwell, while the sisters are Mrs. N. H. Nelson of McCallsburg, Miss Alice Guthrie of Waterloo and Mrs. Andrew Nagle of Ames.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon. There will be brief services at the home at 1:30 after which the funeral proper will be at the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg with W. O. Benthin, pastor of Central Presbyterian church of Nevada, in charge.

Interment will be in the Nevada cemetery, under the auspices of the Zearing Masonic lodge of which organization he was a member.

The deceased was born on a farm near Zearing, April 16, 1876 and had lived since he was six years of age on the same farm where his untimely death took place so suddenly.

Mr. Guthrie had long bee a prominent factor in the business, civic, social and religious life of the community.

He was an active member of the Presbyterian church, a member of the school board and had held various other offices and positions of trust in the community, was a man of many fine characteristics and very highly respected.
