Ken Lee Malaby was born in Denison, TX on February 5, 1930. His family moved to Chickasha, OK and he graduated from high school in 1948. He later attended Phillips University at Enid and graduated with a degree in chemistry in 1952. Ken met Shirley Brieser, a research assistant in his lab, and they were married on June 19, 1955. After his retirement, they built a house in the country and together they enjoyed their acreage, farming, farm sales, raising cattle and gardening. Ken was skilled at do-it-yourself projects and could fix or build most anything. He loved fishing and camping with his family. He was a faithful and active member of First Christian Church, singing in the choir and serving as deacon and treasurer. He belonged to Golden Kiwanis and was a Master Gardener. He also enjoyed playing bridge, golf and ping-pong with friends and neighbors.

Ken died April 22, 2014 at the Heartwood House in Ames.

Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, Kenneth W. (Jane) Malaby of Mechanicsville; one daughter, Sarah Malaby, of Klamath Falls, OR.; three grandchildren, Erik, Alison and Ian Malaby; two brothers, Bill, of Norman, OK and John, of La Conner, WA and their families.
