Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
World's Oldest Person with Cerebral Palsy dies at 104. On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, (Barbara) Inez Maisel died at the age of 104 at Riverside Manor South, where she was a resident for 12 years. Born "profoundly" cerebral palsied in War Eagle, Arkansas, on February 13, 1910, Inez was the child of Bessie (Dawson) and John Maisel, who moved to Colorado when Inez was three years old; they later divorced and Bessie married Ernest E. Rudolph, Sr. That union produced eight half-brothers/sisters to Inez, but the family always considered Inez as child #1 of the nine.
Inez was a voracious reader with a remarkable memory, who retained so much of what she read that she was known as the "trivia queen" in any competition. She loved to associate facts, such as her favorite, dating her birth from Abraham Lincoln's. He was born on February 12, 1809, so Inez always said she was "100 years + one year + one day after Lincoln.
She is survived by two siblings: Dorothy Clancy of Garden Grove, California, plus her care-giver for the last 22 years, Sunny Powers of Ames, Iowa. She also has several surviving cousins, nephews and nieces, She was preceded in death by her six half-brothers/sisters.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
