Funeral Services Sunday Afternoon for Late John Moran

Funeral rites were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Morfoot Funeral home, for John Moran, 74, native son of Grant township, but later of 1626 Fourth street, Nevada, who died so suddenly Thursday morning.

The service was in charge of Dr. J. O. Simon, pastor of Memorial Lutheran church, with Harry Christiansen at the organ for suitable numbers preceding and following the service and during the period of viewing the remains.

The funeral home was well filled with relatives and old neighbors and friends, many of them from a distance.

The casket bearers were selected from among his longtime personal friends and neighbors, they being E. C. Gretten, Fred W. Nelson, Frank H. Kinsman, Lloyd Jensen, James Day and V. I. Applegate.

During the funeral service for this native son of Grant township, a long prominent and active citizen of this county, Dr. Simon read the following brief life sketch of the life of the deceased:

"John Moran, son of Patrick and Mary Moran, was born in Grant township April 30, 1869 and died at Nevada, December 30, 1943, at the age of 74 years, 8 months. Both the father and mother of Mr. Moran were born in Ireland and came to America at an early age. They were married in Ohio where they lived for a time, then came to Iowa in 1860 and settled on a farm in Grant township.

"Mr. Moran had 4 brothers and one sister. The sister, Mrs. Ella Crane of Rockford, is the only one of the family still living.

"Mr. Moran was married to Lillian Dean in Story county, June 26, 1895, at the the Arthur Dean home just east of Nevada. To this union three children were born; Lloyd E. Moran of Chicago, Ill; Mary, Mrs. Anderson Coggshall of Bartlesville, Okla., and Mildred, Mrs. Harold Hansen of Nevada. There are also five grandchildren.

"Mr. Moran was a man of fine character. He was ever devoted to his home and his lived ones. He lived his life with their interests always in mind. He was a helpful and considerate neighbor. Through the years an ever increasing number of people were happy to count him as a friend. In all his dealings he adhered to the highest standards of honesty and integrity. The home has lost a loving husband and father; his friends have lost genial, companionable soul and the community and county has lost staunch defender and helper. His passing is a cause of sorrow and sadness, not alone for his loved ones but for large concourse of people of this community who knew him, and knowing him loved and respected him. These offer their tribute of sympathy to these of the immediate family who sorry so deeply today."
