Claude L. Moran was born Dec. 16, 1893, son of Mark Moran and Effie Finley Moran. Growing up in the Nevada Township farm of this pioneer Story county family, he graduated from the Nevada high school and from Iowa State College. Married to Ruth Nichols Au. 20, 1919, he farmed his home place until ill health forced him to retire from farming in 1936.
Moving to Nevada he was elected to the county board of supervisors where he served for twelve years, from 1937 through 1948. he distinguished himself and gained the recognition of his co-workers in this field such that he was for two years president of the county supervisors organization and also served as president of the county officers organization of the state.
A veteran of World War I, Claude was a member for over 35 years of the American Legion and a member of the Forty and Eight. He was a member of the Masonic Order, the Eastern Star and the Methodist church. Trained well in the vocation of farming, an Iowa State graduate in Animal Husbandry, he with habitual neatness and regular schedule as a good husbandman, a good shepherd, not only did well in his vocation but served his community through related activities.
Always interested in public life and community service, he was a township trustee, a secretary of the triple A in the 30's, active in the Farm Bureau, and through the intervening years continued the leadership, as well as the friendship and service, which the limitations of his health would permit.
Preceded in death by his brother Harry in 1918, and by his parents, Claude L. Moran, died Oct. 17, 1956, having been in failing health over the past three years. Surviving are his wife, Ruth, his daughter, Marguerite, Mrs. George E. Miller, and one grandson, Cary Kent Miller.
