Mae Sturtz, 80, of Ames, died on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City, IA.

Mae E. Sturtz was born on June 12, 1933 in Tama, Iowa. She was one of three children born to William and Mildred (Krohn) Powers.

She grew up and attended school in Ferguson, Iowa.

Mae worked at the Hi-Lo Café in Marshalltown where she met a young electrician named Neal Sturtz. On May 27, 1957, Mae married Neal in Montour, Iowa. They relocated to Ames in 1959. Mae worked at Riverside Manor and Donnelley Marketing in Nevada. She was a volunteer at the church library and a hospice volunteer. She spent the rest of her time raising her kids and spoiling her grandkids.

She was a league bowler and die hard Dallas Cowboy and ISU Cyclone fan. She collected snowmen and never met one she didn’t love.

Mae passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Neal Sr. of Ames; three daughters Kathy (Trond) Forre of Slater, Laura Sturtz of Ames, Cheryl Baker of Roland; one son Neal Jr. (Kris) of Nevada; twelve grandchildren; and one great grandson and one granddog; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers George and Larry.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave, Ames, IA 50010.

Visitation:
Visitation will be at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, IA on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Service:
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, IA.

Cemetery:
Mae will be buried at Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames, IA.
