Verl C. "Pinky" Sloan (1903-1949)

Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon a 2 o'clock at the Ryan Funeral home in Nevada, for V. C. Sloan, who passed away last Thursday* evening at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames. Mr. Sloan had undergone surgery Thursday morning, and passed away at 6:30 in the evening. Rev. Hugh Guy of the Nevada Christian church, of which Mr. Sloan was a member, officiated at the last rites. Rev. Allen E. Nelson of Roland assisted at the service. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Sloan was born December 29, 1908, near Lancaster, Kentucky and was a son of Robert F. and Laura Sloan. He graduated from the Nevada high school and was united in marriage to Gertrude Risdal of this place on August 17, 1923, at Dakota City, Nebr. he was a member of the Christian church.

Mr. Sloan was employed by the Iowa Electric Power and Light Co., for 18 years as lineman, and served a couple year as town electrician in Roland. Mr. and Mrs. Sloan have been residents of Ames since the first of the year.

Surviving him are his wife, Gertrude, his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. R. F. Sloan of Nevada, two brothers, T. L. Sloan of Akron, Ohio, and John Sloan of San Francisco, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. Zella Cessna of Nevada, and Mrs. Emarine Roskopf of Melbourne. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edla and Lloyd L. Sloan.
