Glen E. Appelgate
Sept 13, 1912 to April 9, 1994

Glen E. Appelgate, 81, of Nevada, died of a heart attack at his home.

He was born born to Lewis "Mac" McClellan and Lydia Belle (Chapman) Appelgate in Nevada. On April 27, 1938, he married Evelyn McNatton in Nevada. He was a lifelong resident of Nevada. In 1975, he retired from his job as track superintendent for the Rock Island Railroad. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Nevada, and Nevada Masonic Lodge #99. His hobbies include fishing, gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include his daughter, Carole Trantham of Vinton; his son, Ralph Appelgate of Ames; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn, in 1981; his son, Richard, in 1986; three sisters, Leila Appelgate, Ruth Cherryholmes, and Doris Appelgate; and two brothers, Dorrel Appelgate and Ralph Appelgate.

Funeral services were held April 13 at First United Methodist Church, Nevada, with Pastor James King officiating. Burial was in Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada, was in charge of arrangements.
