From the Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, September 9, 1943.

T. E. Rafdal, formerly of this place, died at his home in Story City August 26, He was born in Skaanevik, Bergen, Norway, on January 14, 1863 and was 80 years, 7 months and 12 days old. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He emigrated from Norway in 1883 and came to Lisbon, Ill., where he was united in marriage the same year to Margaret Rorvig Fjelberg. To this union four children were born, Isabelle (Mrs. Claude Poole), Mrs. Ella Gross and Osmond, all of Des Moines, and Theodore of Ames.

The family moved to Roland and lived here for 15 years. Mrs. Rafdal passed away in 1899. In 1902 he was married to Ingeborg Yeager, who died two (years later.

On October 17, 1914, he was united in marriage to Hanna Wisted Rondeberg. To this union were born eight children, seven of whom survive him, besides his wife. They are, Sgt. Albert Rafdal of the Army; Sgt. Alton Rafdal of Lincoln Air Base, Lincoln, Nebr.; Margaret, Mrs. Otto Twedt of Roland; Beatrice, Mrs. William Howerton, jr., of Story City; Elwood of the U. S. Navy; Gladys, Mrs. Frederick Waugh of Roland; and Donald of Story City. One son, Clarence, preceded him in death on April 16, 1940, at the age of 21 years. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on August 30 at the home and at Bethel Lutheran church in Story City with Rev. A. J. Bringle of Randall, officiating, assisted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud.
