Ardis Laverne Swenson, 84, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Bickford Cottage in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m.on Thursday, August 8 at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Interment with military rites will be prior to the service at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 9 at the Story City Municipal Cemetery in Story City, Iowa. A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 9 at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel.

Art was born on January 30, 1929, in Story City, IA to Julia (Enderson) and Myron L. Swenson. He attended Story City schools, graduating in 1947. As a young man, he worked on various farms in the Story City area, and for his uncles in their plumbing and heating business. In 1950, he entered the United States Army, where he served until 1952. He attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines, after which he worked as a bookkeeper for Missouri Valley Limestone Company in Oakland, IA from 1959 until 1964. He then returned to the Des Moines area, where he was an accountant and office manager for Quick Supply Company in Johnston until his retirement in 1994.

Art enjoyed living on his farm, playing cribbage, watching college and professional sports, and attending events with family and friends. He was a member of the Story City American Legion Post #59 and the Maple Grove United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Case) Swenson; his sister, Joyce Tweedt, Slater; his brother, Jerrold (Kay) Swenson, Ames; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Arlen Tweedt.
