Death

Gladys Josephine Handeland, 92, of Story City, died Oct. 1, 2001, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Manor Chapel, with the Revs. Stephen and Sandy Anenson officiating. Burial were in the Story City Cemetery in Story City.

Gladys Josephine Handeland was born May 16, 1909, in Hamilton County to Joseph and Isabell (Sansgaard) West. She was a lifetime resident of Story City and a homemaker.

She married Milford Handeland on February 10, 1937, and he passed away Sept. 26, 1968. She was a member of Immnauel Lutheran Church in Story City and was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjory Gibson of Gilbert; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clarice Bickelhaupt of Story City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and infant daughter, Patricia; three brothers, Floyd, Morrel and Alfred West and an infant sister.
