Gustav Archeske Dies at Story City

STORY CITY -- Gustav Archeske, 87-year-old resident of Story City, died at his home Friday evening. Mr. Anderson, who had moved here from Des Moines in 1933, had been an invalid since 1937 when he fell on an icy walk and broke his hip.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the Larson-Peterson funeral home, and at 2 o'clock from the St. Petri Lutheran church; the Rev. S. T. Nelson will officiate.

Burial is in the Story City cemetery.

Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Clara Oehlson and Mrs. Henry Oehlson, both of Story City, and nine children.

Rites Held Monday For Gustav Archeske

Last rites were held Monday afternoon in Story City for Gustav Archeske, who passed away at his home there on Friday evening.

His pastor, the Rev. S. T. Nelson, conducted the services in the St. Petri Lutheran church and in the Larson-Peterson Funeral home.

Mrs. Robert Hermanson, provided special music at the church. The casket bearers were Bert Hill, T. Z. Henryson, Henry K. Henderson, John Okland, C. L. Johnson and Erick Hove. Interment was in the Story City cemetery.

The pastor read the following obituary: Gustav Archeske, the son of Joseph and Anna Artuschewake, was born in West Prussia, Germany on June 4, 1863. He migrated to America at the age of 19 years, coming to Des Moines.

On September 26, 1889, he was united in marriage to Shristine Bleich. Two daughters and one son were born.

Mr. Archeske was an active member of the Zion Lutheran church in Des Moines, and since coming to Story City in 1933, he became affiliated with the St. Petri Lutheran church.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Clara Oehlson and Mrs. Henry Oehlson, both of Story City, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one son, Walter.
