Clark D. Tilden died Thursday
Clark D. Tilden, 76, member of a pioneer Ames family, died Thursday, July 25, at Mary Greeley Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, at 1:30PM from the United Church of Christ, Congregational with the Reverend Ronald D. Whitmer officiating. Burial is to be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Born in Ames, Mr. Tilden graduated from Iowa State University in 1920. He became the owner and operator of Tilden’s Store, a family department store established here in 1869. The business was closed when Mr. Tilden retired in 1971. A veteran of service in World War I, Mr. Tilden was a member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational, Delta Tau Delta Social Fraternity and the Elks Lodge. Widely known in Iowa amateur golf circles, he was a Past President of the Iowa Sate Gold Association.

Survivors include his wide Dorothy; two sons, Dr. John D. Tilden, East Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan and Robert D. Tilden, Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa; a daughter, Susan Vaughn, Boulder, Boulder County, Colorado; his sister, Mrs. Harriett T., McJimsey, 2229 Donald Street and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with gifts to go to the American Cancer Society. Gifts may be left at the First National Bank. The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
