Charlotte Baker
BORN: July 19, 1918
DIED: January 23, 2011
LOCATION: Hubbard, IowaCharlotte was born in Orchard, Iowa, July 19, 1918 to Curvin and Maude (Borton) Brenneman. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Beloit College in Wisconsin. She was a missionary in Durban, South Africa teaching at Inanda Girls Seminary from 1940-47. She married Ralph Baker August 28, 1948 in a ceremony performed by her father at the Congregational Church in Genoa City, Wisconsin. Charlotte and Ralph moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in August 1949 where they raised five children. She moved to Ames from Louisiana in 1998.
Charlotte was a member of Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Ames. Before she moved to Iowa, she was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, LA where she taught Sunday school, served as womens circle leader, led many Bible studies and enjoyed baking for church functions. Charlotte was very involved with Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts as she raised her family.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Barbara Baker and her husband Robert Korenberg of Missoula, MT, David Baker of Bethesda, MD, Nancy Baker of Lexington, VA, Jean (Harry) McMaken of Huxley and Danny (Bobbie) Baker of Central, LA; two sisters, Genevieve Anderson and Patricia Anderson both of Kenosha, WI; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Curvin and wife Sally, brother-in-laws Marty and Joe, daughter-in-law Peggy Maas; and nephew, Curvin III.Memorials may be made to Collegiate Presbyterian Church.
