Ardith Louise Mick

BORN: May 20, 1913

DIED: August 11, 2011

LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Ardith Louise Jennings Mick was born May 20, 1913 in Van Meter, Iowa, daughter of Alma Kimmey and Roy Jennings. She attended Drake University. On February 27, 1934, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Mick. They made their home in Van Meter, Iowa and moved to Mobile, Alabama for four years during World War II. They returned to Iowa to settle in Story City in 1946.

She was active in Grace United Methodist Church including Ladies Aide, community dinners, and music. She sang in the church choir, was pianist for junior choir for 25 years, played piano and organ duets, and played for Vacation Bible School. Her musical talents were shared in the community by accompanying singer in duets, and trios, directing the Senior Citizens Choir for 24 years, and playing piano for Bethany Manor for weekly services and Tuesday’s kitchen band. Her lifelong passion was music and sharing it with others. During her 9 years of independent living at Timberland Village, she led weekly sing-a-longs.

In addition to her music, she and her husband became avid rock hounds, taking trips to hunt for petrified wood and dinosaur bones. She frequently contributed to bake sales and was known for her cinnamon rolls and pecan pie.

Ardith passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 98 years of age.

Ardith was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy; and three sisters, Alice, Mildred, and Helen.

She is survived by her son Harold (Lori) Mick of Blacksburg, VA, daughter Nancy (Marlowe) Holstrum of Belvidere, IL, and daughter Linda (Tom) Ellett of San Diego, CA; two sisters, Ruth and Kay; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Church Music Program.
