Ernest William Smith

BORN: April 25, 1920

DIED: August 9, 2011

LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Ernest William Smith was born April 25, 1920 to George and Anna (Koppen) Smith in Hubbard, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hubbard. Ernie served in the United States Army during World War II. Ernie and Evelyn Krause were married June 21, 1952. Ernie owned and operated Smith Welding in Jewell from 1967 to 1989. Ernie was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Ernie enjoyed fishing, boating, and nature: always keeping feed out for the birds and squirrels.

Ernie is survived by two sisters, Darlene (Don) Paulson of Story City and Martha Smith of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn; his brother Martin Smith; and his sister Elsie Knutson.

Memorials may be designated to Bethany Manor Chaplaincy Fund.
