BORN: September 9, 1929

DIED: October 7, 2011

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Marcia Lee Akers, 82, of Ames, died Friday October 7, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service will be held on October 11, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's by the campus, in Ames

Marcia was born September 9, 1929 in Osceola, Nebraska to Harry and Esther (Lees) Pratt. She graduated from Osceola High School and continued her education receiving her BS in 1951 from the University of Nebraska and her MS from Iowa State University in 1980. She was employed by Iowa State University College of Business for 19 years as an Academic Advisor retiring in 1993. On February 25, 1978, she married Arthur Akers in Ames.

Marcia was a member of P. E. O. Chapter H. N., Delta Gamma Sorority, Theta Chi Sorority and St. John's Episcopal Church in Ames.

Marcia is survived by two sons, Ted Riggs of Chandler, AZ, Tom (Lisa) Riggs of Lenexa, KS. Step-son Andy Akers of the UK. One grandchild and 9 step grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Andrew Riggs and sister, Donna Baumgartner.
