Bruce Cairns

BORN: November 18, 1934

DIED: January 28, 2012

LOCATION: Amesi, Iowa

Bruce David Cairns 77, of Ames passed away at his home January 28, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge, with a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.
Bruce was born November 18, 1934 in Des Moines, to Harry and LaVona (Auestad) Cairns. He graduated from High School in Cambridge. In 1953 he enlisted in the Marines and served until 1956. After serving his country Bruce managed retail stores in California for 20 years, returning to Iowa in 1974. Bruce worked for the DOT as a Heating Plant Engineer retiring in 1996. On October 25, 1980 he married Mary Jane Larson Christopherson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a member of American Legion Post 233 and Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge. Bruce enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and his dog Spice.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; son, David (Patti) Cairns; daughter, Julie (Simon) Andrews; step-son, Roger (Krista) Hutson; six grand children; and six great grand children; sister, Gloria (Lyle) Herrold and sister in-law, Sherry Cairns.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harry Cairns Jr.

Memorials may be designated to the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge.
