Elaine Pearl (Davis) Byrd was born October 2, 1918 to Leo and Anna Davis in Schuyler, Nebraska. Funeral services are 3:30 Saturday, March 10 at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, Huxley. Visitation is one hour prior to the service.

Elaine graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1936. Before marriage she worked for Metro Golden Mayer, MOM, film exchange as a secretary in Omaha, Nebraska as well as in her brother-in-law, Dr. Jim Skultety's private practice in Des Moines. January 1, 1944 she married Lt Orval Byrd in the 99th Infantry Chapel at Camp Maxey in Paris, Texas.

Elaine resided in Huxley for 55 years in a home built by her late husband. She was a homemaker. During her stay in Huxley she could be found walking twice a day around town with her husband. She was a faithful member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church where she had been a part of the sewing circle, ladies aide, preschool Sunday school teacher, and served on many committees.
She is survived by one sister, Ida Mae Skultety; four children, Orval Byrd Jr of Des Moines, Lyle Byrd, of Houston TX, Richard Byrd, of Kapaii, Hawaii, and Marilyn Foster, of Centerville; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Byrd Sr, and her parents.
