THE END.--Sunday morning word was quietly passed around that James D. Ferner, former postmaster of this city, had died during the night at his residence in this city after a brief illness from heart trouble. It was not anticipated and came as a surprise to the mass of our people. Up to within a few hours he was apparently in his usual health and the report was at first received with a look of surprise but it was a fact as was soon accertained. He has been resident at this point for many year being among the the earlier ones and more or less of the time holding some public position, the last one being postmaster of this city under Pres. McKinley. He was a member of the Masonic order as well as the Grand Army Post, the members of the G. A. R. Post of this city many of them turning out to the last rites. Rev. Nye preached the sermon upon the occasion after which the remains were interred in the Nevada Cemetery. He leaves a wife and three children Mrs. F. C. McCall, Miss Elva Ferner and Mrs. Chas. Covell to mourn his departure. He was aged 70 years, 11 months and 18 days.
