From Story County Watchman July 1, 1904

Friday night a foul murder was committed in Des Moines being that of Thos. Callahan whose room was entered by some one who evidently intended robbery and the result was the death of Mr. Callahan. He was 62 years of age and leaves a daughter and several relatives to look to the meeting in the future. The body was brought to this city and the funeral took place at the Catholic church with Father Nichols officiating, after which the body was laid away in the Catholic cemetery at this point. An investigation is in progress and it is to be hoped that the parties who are guilty of the murder may be brought to deserved and right justice.
