From Story County Watchman July 18, 1902

STONE.

Mrs. Elizabeth Stone, a member of the women's building at the Iowa Soldiers Home and the mother of five sons who served in the civil war, died Wednesday as the result of an accident, suffered on July 4, when she fell and broke a leg.

Mrs. Stone came to the Home from Story county Oct. 12, 1900, and was considered one of the most remarkable women in the institution, in that she was the mother of five sons who served in the civil war. It was thru their service that she was eligible to membership, her husband having died nine years before the war began. Her sons were John T. and William E. Stone, who served in Company D. Thirty-fourth Iowa infantry, and Elias V., Henry R. and George C. Stone, members of McEldon's dragons. As far as the Home records show but one of the son's Henry R. is living, and he is expected this afternoon from Smith Center, Kas. Mrs. Stone was a native of York state and was 88 years of age. Her husband was Benjamin Stone, who died in Danville, N. Y., in May, 1852. It is thought that the son will take his mother's remains to Danville for interment beside those of her husband.--Marshall Times Republican.

Geo. C. Stone in also alive and now living in Danville, N. Y., and one daughter, Mrs. A. T. McCarger who is living in New York City.
