From Story County Watchman June 20, 1902

On Thursday of last week Earl Smith was drowned in Indian Creek, near Iowa Center, and since that time every effort possible has been made to recover the remains but they have not been recovered up to this writing. The age of the boy was bout 11 years. He is the son of I. N. Smith a respected farmer of the locality and the family have th sympathy of all in this their hour of trial. An effort has been made to turn the channel of the stream the better to ascertain the location and recover the body.

IOWA CENTER.

The body of little Earl Smith was found in Indian Creek Sunday about two miles from where he was drowned. It is a little over three weeks since this sad accident happened and although every effort had been put forth to find the child it was not to be until last Sunday a. m. while Warren Fry, Chas. Smith and Nathan Guge were replacing a fence that had been washed out by high water he was found under some drift wood. At the request of the parents he was removed from the water and services held in the church Monday at 10 a. m. after which the remains were laid to rest in Woodland cemetery.

Collins Clipper: ....Everett E. Smith was born Nov. 17, 1890, and died June 12, 1902 aged 11 years, 6 months and 26 days.
