From Story County Watchman July 30, 1897

DIED:--Sunday, July 25, at 1:30 p. m. at her home five miles north-west of town, Hannah McNichols, wife of Mike McNichols, aged 44 years. Mrs. McNichols was born in Wisconsin in 1853 where she lived until she came to Iowa with her husband in 1882. She had been a patient sufferer for a number of years and one who by her noble character had endeared herself to many. She leaves a husband, five living children and a wide circle of friends to mourn her loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Hennessy at the Catholic church on Tuesday morning.

Weep not dear children, thy mother still lives. What we call death, is but the shining portal o'er which she passed to her eternal home.
