From Story County Watchman June 14, 1895

Some two weeks since we noted that John H. McLain was at the point of death at his home in Glendale, Montana. Word has been received that he died on the 4th inst. at the age of 72 years. He was one of the first settlers of Story county and held positions of trust and honor while here. He moved to Montana a good many years since, where he made his home still keeping up his remembrance of matters in Story county and often writing and telling those who called upon him that he intended to be again with them in old Story. He has number of relatives here, Mssrs. McLain, of Ames and Nevada, Geo. Child and others. While expected, yet his many friends here are sorry to learn of his death at this time.
