From Story County Watchman December 10, 1886

DIED.--At the residence of her daughter Mrs. F. C. Hunter, in Franklin township on the 3rd. of December.

Mrs. Polly Betts, aged 93 years on the 2nd of Feb. next.

Mrs. Betts was born in Essex County, Vermont in 1794. Her maiden name was Polly Pitman*. She was married to Johnathan Betts in 1816, and moved to Ohio in 1825. Her husband died in 1841, and she moved to Iowa in 1858, and made her home with F. C. Hunter ever since. She was the mother of eight children, the youngest of which is Mrs. F. C. Hunter, of Franklin township. Her husband was in the war of 1812-15, for which she drew a pension up to the date of her death.

Mrs. Betts, was esteemed by her acquaintances for the many noble qualities she possessed, and they all followed the remains to their last resting place, where they were gathered in a ripe old age, with feelings that her life had been well spent, and with hopes of meeting in a better land.

*SUBMITTERS NOTE: The submitter has evidence that the deceased's maiden name was "Putnam" not "Pitman," and daughter of Asa Putnam and Polly Fowler.
