From Story County Watchman November 12, 1886

Colo Zephyrs.

IN MEMORIAM--The saddest event that ever occured in our Catholic community occured at 9 o'clock last Sunday night, at which time the well beloved and universally respected John T. Quinn breathed his last and yielded his soul into the hands of Him who made it.

Only 28 years of age, in the vigor of strength and bloom of health, he was seized upon by the fatal fever which despite the able treatment of Dr. Hostetter and the tenderest care of a loving sister and fond parents, claimed him as its victim, after twenty-two days of terrific suffering. So unexpected and in opportune an occurance is accounted for in the Book of Wisdom, for John, like the chaste and just thereto mentioned, being made perfect in a short space, fulfilled a long time, and having pleased God and being beloved by Him He took him to Himself, lest wickedness should alter his understanding, or deceit beguile his soul. The deceased was endowed with all the graces that adorn manhood; gifted beyond many with a clear head and good intellect, he was the possessor of a heart that overflowed with a genuine sympathy; the many deeds of kindness and charity he performed in life will plead for him before the judgment seat of Him who has pronounced charity the greatest of all virtues. While his soul was strengthened by the Holy Sacraments of that Church of which he was a faithful member, it went forth to meet its God. He is gone but his memory livith and the hot tears which like rain drops, tell without measure; and the choking sobs of Tuesday last guarantee that it shall ever be a a household word in Colo, synonomous with every christian and manly virtue.

The largest and most respectable funeral procession ever wended its dreary way to a Story County Cemetery followed his mortal remains to their last resting place, there being by actual count seventy-eight teams, all, with tive or six exceptions, being carriages or buggie.--May Almighty God have mercy on John's soul, and may he have as many friends among the angels and saints in Heaven as he left after him here below is the prayer of one who loved him in life and in death will not forget him.
