From Story County Watchman June 5, 1878

A young man named Vincent, aged about 16 years, son of John Vincent, formerly of this county, was killed by lightening, while herding cattle near Johnson's Grove, last Saturday afternoon. He with an elder brother had a herd of about 300 head, which they were watching and were on opposite sides of the herd; hearing the report, the elder one looked around, and saw his brothers horse getting up, and he went to the spot as soon as he could, and found the boy dead.
