Floyd Brown, 93, of Nevada, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Private services will be at a later date. Interment will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be used for charity.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd Brown, 93, of Nevada, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Private services will be at a later date. Interment will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Floyd was born Sept. 9, 1917, at Randolph, Neb., to Clifford and Mary (Mahoney) Brown. He graduated from Sioux City High School in 1933. He married Lorena Ramesbothom on Feb. 21, 1942, and celebrated 65 years of marriage. He and his family moved to Nevada in 1952, and he was employed at the ISU Dairy until 1969. He then attended AIB and returned to the ISU Power Plant as clerk. He was the oldest active employee at Iowa State University at his retirement in 2000 at the age of 82.

He was a very active member of the Nevada Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was an accomplished harmonica player and played for many church programs. He sang in a men’s quartet and traveled to other churches.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, reading and telling old stories.

He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie (Ray) Peterson, of Gilbert, and Arlene (Mike) Fry, of Nevada; one sister, Marilyn Brown, of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorena in 2007; his great-granddaughter, Alissa; one sister, Dorothy Brown; and two brothers, Donald and Allan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be used for charity.
