THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 26, 2010.

Pauline Nelson, 102, of Ames, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Heartwood House. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Adams Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Pauline was born June 9, 1908, on a farm northeast of Gilbert, the oldest of four children born to John (Harry) and Ella Emma (Brown) Dodds. She graduated from Ames High School, and during that time worked at JC Penney. For 25 years, she was a telephone operator for AT&T.

She married Charles E. (Chuck) Nelson July 3l, 1937, in Knoxville. They resided in Ames and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. To this union, two sons were born, Paul and Jerry.

She was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a 50-year member of the Ames Woman’s Club, belonged to PEO Chapter IV, and Kappa Delta Phi. She enjoyed her Craft Club, Hicollto Dance Club and Red Friars.

She is survived by two sons, Paul (Sandi) Nelson and Jerry (Mary) Nelson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Michele (Nelson) Steppe, Logan and Ashlie, Gregory Nelson, Christopher (Anne) Nelson, Erik, Ian and Evan, Joseph (Aimee) Nelson and Lauren, and Matthew (Jackie) Nelson and baby due in December; sister, Lois Cowan; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dodds; nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Sandy (McLarnan) and Darold Plate.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; one brother, Harold (Bob) Dodds; and one sister, Helen Goodloe.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.
