THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, August 26, 2010.

Willard Dean Hennesy, 84, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Visitation with the family will be at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. A luncheon will be served at noon. Burial of the cremains will be private.

Dean was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Tama County, to Roy Willard Hennesy and Mary Esther Westfall. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1943, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1948 in civil engineering. He married Anna Dorothy Kirkwood, of Hanover, N.H., on Dec. 26, 1946, at her family home. He began his career surveying in New Hampshire and worked for construction companies on the East Coast and in Des Moines. He spent the majority of his career with, and retired from, the Boeing Company in Seattle, Wash. They moved to Ames in 2000 to be near children and grandchildren.

He was involved with the Songbirds at Heartland Senior Center in Ames and sang in the variety show. He was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.

He is survived by his children, Stephen (Kassy), of West Branch, Alexander (Ruth), of St. Charles, Mo., Andrew (Kathy), of Des Moines, Lisa (Duane) Anderson, of Ames, and the Rev. Terrance (Colleen), of Oswego, Ill; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; and two sons, Christopher and Hugh.
