THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Monday, June 21, 2010.

David Eldon Mortvedt, 81, of Ellsworth, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Bethany Manor in Story City. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. Burial will be in the Mamrelund Cemetery.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 21, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

David E. Mortvedt was born Dec. 29, 1928, to Ben and Alice (Hia) Mortvedt, in rural Ellsworth, Hamilton County. He graduated Randall High School in 1946 and married Jacqeline Oswood in 1948. David served as a corporal in the United States Marines from 1951 to 1953. David farmed and was a truck driver until his retirement in 1995. He moved to Ellsworth in 1977, the same year he married Kathy Carlson. David liked to golf, play pool, and spend his winters in Texas.

David is survived by his wife, Kathy Mortvedt, of Ellsworth; four children, Roxie (Tom) Bell, of Jewell, Dennis (Terri) Mortvedt, of Keller, Texas, Deb (Keith) Arneson, of Ames, and Loree (Mark) Hanson, of Ames; two stepchildren, Al (Shellie) Johnson, of Story City, and Jana Vanek, of Maplewood, Minn.; one brother, Loren (Sharon) Mortvedt, of Ames; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Rosalie, Mortvedt; and a grandson, Robbie Hanson.
