Caroline Peterson, 61, of Ames, formerly of Jewell, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at St. Cecilia Church in Ames. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Good Shepherd Education Center in Jewell.

Caroline Peterson, 61, of Ames, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at St. Cecilia Church in Ames. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Good Shepherd Education Center in Jewell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House of Ames and the South Hamilton Foundation of Jewell. Becker Funeral and Cremation Service of Jewell is caring for Caroline and her family.
Caroline Esther Sheker was born Oct. 3, 1948, in Fort Dodge, to Robert and Esther (Halligan) Sheker. She attended Corpus Christi School and St. Edmond High School in Fort Dodge. She was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and earned a master’s degree from Viterbo University. On June 3, 1972, she married Keith Peterson in Fort Dodge. She taught third grade in Eagle Grove. She had just finished her 24th year of teaching kindergarten at South Hamilton Community Schools in Jewell. In April 2010, she was awarded the Golden Apple Award by WHO-TV and Nationwide Insurance for her many years of successful teaching.
She is survived by her husband, Keith, of Ames; two sons, Ryan Peterson, of Ames, and Kevin (Lindsay) Peterson, of Parker, Colo.; and grandsons, Brody and Mason Peterson, of Parker, Colo. She also is survived by one sister, Jeanette (Larry) Roediger, of Olympia, Wash.; and two brothers, Larry (Cate) Sheker, of Camp Hill, Pa., and Kermit (Carol) Sheker, of Iowa City. She had many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
